High Level Conference on Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea - Malta, 25-26 September, 2018

On 25th - 26th September in Malta, the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean and the Black Sea (GFCM) together with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) organized and held a High - Level Conference on Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.

This event is a culmination of the work done over the recent years and focused on generating political will and particular actions in support of the small-scale fisheries in the region. 

On Day 1 of the Conference, discussions, meetings and talks were held with the stakeholders, and on 26th September, a high-level meeting took place.  At the event, it was highlighted that over the recent years a significant progress was achieved. Emphasized were best practices in the regions in line with the draft Regional Plan for Action for Small-Scale Fisheries  in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea (RPOA- SSF) which was adopted on Day 2.

The Black Sea Advisory Council took an active part in the meetings, talks and discussions. Mrs. Dimitrina Kostova, Chairperson of the European Black Sea Fisheries Association, a member of the Black Sea Advisory Council, received a prize at the Best Practices for Small-Scale Fishing Award Ceremony.

This was the only prize awarded to an EU - member state from the Black Sea region. At the same event, Mr. Manila, Chairperson of the Black Sea Advisory Council, signed the Plan for Action for Small-Scale Fisheries in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea (RPOA- SSF).
